Who are we?
Etive was formed in Edinburgh, in 2013.
Our Management Team are Grant Simpson, Hamish Martineau, Douglas Walker and Alastair Manson. All are experienced engineers whose careers have seen them continuously engaged in medium and large sized consultancies. With a combined experience of 80 years, these key people have been involved across a range of civil and structural engineering projects of scales varying from £100K to £100M.
We are a limited liability company and are wholly owned by working directors of the business.
what do etive do?
Working throughout the United Kingdom, Etive’s primary focus is the design of buildings and infrastructure.
Our approach is hinged on our ability to listen to our clients, understanding their brief and provide considered, innovative and efficient structural designs. Regardless of structural form or scale of building, we are focussed on value and buildability, through a practical understanding of construction and how our designs can simplify and improve this phase of the project.
We design the roads, external works, drainage systems and general civil engineering infrastructure associated with our building projects but also undertake civils commissions in their own right. Our capability also extends to complex earthworks modelling and Flood Risk Assessments for development sites.
WHAT makes us different?
Anyone can design the basic “beams and columns”, and that’s an important role. But when an engineer can do that whilst thinking more broadly about the development process as a whole, an important role becomes one that can deliver real, meaningful value to clients. Today’s engineer needs to have the ability to apply the rigorous, analytical methods of their training with commercial awareness, intellectual curiosity and an entrepreneurial spirit.
We formed Etive with the aim of harnessing these abilities to provide a better, more personal service to our clients than we felt able to in larger practices.
