The challenge

This site, in Edinburgh’s Sighthill area, had lain partly developed and dormant for over fifteen years. Our client purchased the site and sought to refresh the existing building stock whilst also building a further 100,000 ft2 of trade counter and light industrial units.

Our solution

The development required a comprehensive cut and fill exercise, taking into account complex boundary conditions and the existing building levels. The site had previously been ‘built-up’ with imported material and consequently normal pad and strip foundations were not viable. We utilised a system of vibro-stone columns as the most cost effective ground improvement technique given the conditions as existed. The new buildings are a mix of portal and traditionally braced frames.
