The challenge
Causewayend was the redevelopment of a listed granite school into PBSA. The building had significant fire damage
and had lain empty for some time. We were tasked not only with the refurbishment of the existing building but also a significant extension to house a further 339 cluster bedrooms.
Our solution
The 60 bedrooms in the original building were defined by the existing fenestration, which added design complexity, but was key to saving this important and historic piece of architecture. The local planners also compelled us to re-use granite from the old school gym, which we did on the façade of the new build ensuring a fitting aesthetic to this PBSA.
