Cameron House Hotel - Banqueting Extension
Cameron House Hotel
The challenge
Under normal operations, Cameron House has amongst the highest occupancy rates of any hotel in Scotland. An extremely popular venue for weddings, corporate events and other functions, Cameron House sought to expand the capacity of the complex. The new extension was to allow functions for up to 350 people to attend whilst also provide additional guest bedroom capacity.
Our solution
This is a very large addition to the site and the optimum location from an operational perspective saw a site adjacent the existing Leisure Club selected. The final footprint of the extension and the floor levels were set by Etive after extensive analysis of Loch Lomond’s historic flood levels and extents. This required negotiations with SEPA and the National Park, both anxious to ensure National Planning Policy was rigidly adhered to for such a high profile asset. The structural form utilises wide strip foundations supporting the primary column grids running along the external walls of the banqueting suite. Steel columns support compound trusses which span the function space and support three storeys of bedroom accommodation over. Above transfer level, the structural form comprises light gauge steel framing supporting concrete floors. The external cladding is a natural stone leaf of significant thickness but with the external appearance of dry-stone walling.
